A while back my mother fell and broke 2 ribs. As a result, her lung was punctured and collapsed. My mother’s doctor had her hospitalized, because he was afraid my mother would get pneumonia. At the same time, my mother had a friend who was also hospitalized for pneumonia. My mother got better, but her friend died. So often we take life for granted, never realizing how fragile life really is. I hope I always remember not to take life for granted, but rather to honor and cherish it.

In my very humble opinion, one of the highest honors a person can receive is to mentor or counsel another person in his field. As an attorney, I was often approached by young or new attorneys about how to handle cases in court, and I was always happy to help. Everyone wants to be fed from the same spoon. This is especially true in court. When one person receives preferential treatment in court, it brings the whole court system into disrepute. All anyone wants in court is to be treated equally, like everyone else. Judges are sworn to avoid anything that even appears improper.
